[PCB Members] West Side Story and Other Info

Band,

After much evaluation and discussion over the West Side Story, here is what I would like to do.

For this February concert, we will perform the Ian Polster arrangement, movements 2, 3 and 4 (Mambo, Cha-Cha, and Cool).  This fits the timing needed for the concert (about 6 minutes) and will also allow us the needed time to work on the other pieces on that "half concert" performance.  I am requesting that we keep the Paul Lavender arrangement on the website and my goal would be to program it, in its entirety (22 minutes) on the April 2023 concert.

I am looking forward to working the Lavender arrangement as it is a more accurate lift for the original score as it was originally arranged for the US Marine Band.  It is very technical, has some difficult key signatures and includes many accidentals including double sharps.  It is a big work and will take a lot of time to iron out all of the intricacies of the piece.  There are many holes in which one can step and not many places that you can hide, especially when it comes to tuning.  I want us to have the best opportunity to play the entire piece and have time to properly prepare it.  That is why I am choosing to move it to April of 2023.

We have 6 rehearsals (this includes the dress rehearsal) prior to our combined concert with the DAAYO on February 27th.  We will meet on Monday night at JP2 unless you hear something different between now and then.  Please wear a facemask while entering and moving about the building and please do not come to rehearsal if you do not feel well.  With such a reduced amount of rehearsal time to prep for the concert, we want to make sure that we are all doing everything we can to keep our band family safe and healthy while giving us as much rehearsal time as possible.
