Hey Band,

I am tagging on to Marilyn’s “welcome back” email. I have been looking forward to seeing and working with each of you. Monday night we will be start of our preparation for our February 27th concert at the Eisemann in cooperation with the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra.

We will be starting the rehearsal with Suspiros, an unusual and beautiful Paso Doble.

Next we will be doing a first reading of a new arrangement by Buddy Mattei. The band version of Kentucky Mountain Sketches has been a long time in coming. It had been our plan to program it before Covid hit. I am very excited to hear this piece in a wind ensemble format. We will be working on the 2nd and 3rd movements.

Gavorkna fanfare is a short flashy piece by Jack Stamp. While not easy, it should provide a colorful “ear catching” opener for our portion of the concert.

With the remaining time, we will explore as relatively new piece for concert band Into the Silent Land is a somber, poignant, introspective, and at times eerily beautiful musical statement in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy. I think is also has relevance to the grim loss our country has endured in the last 2 years.

So, new music and a new concert season. While I hope to see you Monday, please heed Marilyn and the Board’s request to only come if you feel healthy and are comfortable with our rehearsal situation. As always please extend the courtesy of letting your me or your section leader know if you will not be there tonight.

Cordially,

Joe Frank
