Hey Band,

I am looking forward to our Monday night zoom meeting and I hope you can attend. The idea (actually Denise’s idea) is to for me to go over three potential pieces while you have music in hand (and a pencil). I will provide information on tempos, style, technical considerations and basic info about the piece and composer. I promise not to be long winded and hope to keep the description of three pieces, with time for questions, under 45 minutes.

I ask your patience as this is the first time I have tried anything of this sort (though someone compared it to the instruction period of sightreading contest). I will appreciate your feed back and we may try it again if it seems helpful.

The three pieces we will look at are:

Strike Up the Band Gershwin

Courtly Airs and Dances Nelson

Festive Overture Shostakovich/Hunsberger

Richard has scanned the parts and they should be available for printing. I suggest you print the same part as you played on the last February concert.

I have studied multiple reference recording and a here are the links to the ones I found most useful.

Strike Up the Band I was not able to find a recording I though a good enough reference. There are recordings out there if you want to google them.

I challenge you to work on your parts and maybe we could celebrate our first rehearsal back with a straight through reading of one of these pieces!!

See you Monday,

Joe
