*Band Blast 9.12.2019*

*FROM JOE*

*joe.frank.jr at gmail.com* <joe.frank.jr at gmail.com>

We are BACK! I was really excited about our first rehearsal. I was
nervous about the new music and its difficulty level, but the band read *very
well* even though we had some key players out. Overall, the band sounded
great! We had new and returning members Monday night that makes a great
combination of what has become a deep talent pool. While we still need at
least one more player, the percussion did a good job and I appreciate their
hard work on complicated parts.

For the November concert, we have a great line up of literature and will be
presenting a wide variety of styles and sounds. This will be a more
complicated concert with the different staging requirements of a concert
band, wind ensemble, jazz band, featured flute soloist *Nestor Torres* and
possibly a flute ensemble. The audience, however, should be very intrigued.

Finally, let me repeat my usual request. Please, *please* communicate with
either your section leader or me when you anticipate an absence for
rehearsal. We make plans based on the anticipated attendance. Also, look
at your calendar so you are sure of your availability on our planned
concert dates. If you are not going to be available for the concert on
November 17, let me know as soon as possible

Jim will lead the next two rehearsals as I will be out. He has all
rehearsal plans so come prepared to work hard. The band is in very good
hands with Jim. I am looking forward to working with everyone (including
the Strange Humors group when I return on the 30th.)

*FROM JIM*

Reservations are open for the November 17 concert with Grammy award-winning
NESTOR TORRES! This is going to be very exciting and will show the band in
new ways.

We have great plans for accomplishing our November theme and you do not
want to miss a rehearsal. Please let me know if you will miss rehearsal on
Sept 16 or 23. Your attendance affects our overall rehearsal goals.

I am looking forward to the work we will do over the next two weeks. Come
prepared to work hard!

*FROM DENISE *

*WELCOME* back to BAND for the 2019-2020 season!
*Joe *and *Jim* have already spent hundreds of hours preparing for this
season.

Thank you *Janice Wolfe *for her work as president last season. Thanks
also to the PCB Board for the 2018-2019 season. We accomplished a lot as
an ensemble and had a great guest artist Mr. Wayne Bergeron for our 40th
Anniversary Concert.

*2019-2020* will continue the excitement built last season. We start out
with guest artist Nestor Torres for the November concert and continue with
a shared concert with McKinney Band in March. Jim and Joe are already
working on the April concert and we have our summer dates as well. See
calendar below.

*Below you will find the PCB Board members for 2019-2020. *We have a new
board beginning every September. If you would like to serve on the board,
talk to one of the members below to find out where you can fit in for the
2020-2021 season.

*$50 by check or cash. $55 online to cover the PayPal fees. *

*And what will that cover? *

$50 x 80 people =$4000.

Isn’t the Eisemann the most fun place to play???

Our dues don’t quite cover the cost of *ONE* Eisemann concert.

*North Texas Day of Giving (NTDoG)*

Everyone should have received an email from Sheila via Constant Contact
talking about *NTDoG*. The email subject is *WANT MORE FREE CONCERTS?*
Pull it back up and send it to your friends! Your excitement about the PCB
is contagious. If your friends know that you are excited about the PCB,
they will be more likely to donate - simply ASK them.

Take a moment to create your own fundraising page – it is right there on
our link. Send it to 4 friends asking for $25. Think about everyone
getting or making a $100 donation on NTDoG – that goes a long way toward
our $15,000 goal. We all need to participate in this opportunity to
support what we love to do. The link to creating your own FUNdraiser page
looks like this:

Here are our goals – have I said…..*we need YOUR HELP!*

*FUNDRAISING GOALS*

*The Plano Community Band is seeking $15,000.00 to support the following in
our 2019-2020 season. *

*1. Free concerts:* *"Mondays in the Park" *each summer at Haggard Park, 3
concerts in the world-class Eisemann Center, and other concerts at various
venues in Plano.

*2. Music for Life Educational Outreach:* A program that
provides free musical education assistance to Plano ISD middle school bands
through clinics, musician-led tutoring, and student scholarships. This
program is staffed by volunteer band members and our conductors donating
their time and musicianship to these kids.

*Talking – don’t we all like to talk?*

People tell me all the time that there is *too much talking during
rehearsal*. “Less talking during rehearsal” should be our mantra. We will
get so much more done as a group if we can all hear – all the time.
Remember that sometimes what Joe and Jim say during rehearsal can apply to
you too - even though they might not be directly talking about your section
or part. Listen and see what you can learn that applies to your part, then
do it! It could make them talk less so we get to play more!
